Printers Row this weekend

Will it rain? It seems to every year. This weekend is the Printers Row Lit Fest in Chicago. Here’s the full schedule. And as usual there are myriad choices of readings and other events. Please drop by the Northwestern MA/MFA table and chat with us.

In the National Post out of Canada, in addition to excellent coverage of the Stanley Cup, there’s a good discussion of the situation and possibilities for independent booksellers. Alana Wilcox of Coach House Books concludes:

I love that the “rules” have fallen away, that there’s room for the Book Bakery and Type and Coach House and Titles and Random House and Amazon — the whole spectrum. Once we each figure out what we do best, and how to combine those things, infinite possibilities open up.

In St. Louis, indie booksellers have formed an alliance: “Contrary to what some might think, local independent bookstores are not in competition with one another, said Nikki Furrer, owner of Pudd'nHead Books in Webster Groves.”

An empty former Border’s bookstore in Thousand Oaks, CA has been repurposed to house a giant arts festival this summer. Tomorrow is opening night and events run through July 30.
