Kendra Fortmeyer is author of the novel Hole in the Middle, and a Pushcart Prize-winning writer with fiction in Best American Nonrequired Reading, One Story, The Toast, Lightspeed, and elsewhere. She’s a graduate of the Clarion SFF Workshop and UT Austin New Writers Project, and a (very minor) contributing editor at Split Lip Magazine. She wrote this story while pregnant, and now has an excellent kid.
