Spring inspiration at the Block Museum
Two new spring exhibits are now open at the Block Museum on our Evanston campus. This museum always refreshes my creative energy, with its nuanced takes on inventive material.
“I Myself Have Seen It: Photography and Kiki Smith” features over 200 pieces of photography, two videos, and several examples of Smith’s sculpture. On Wednesday, April 27 at 5:30, the exhibit’s curator will discuss the artist’s use of photography as its own medium as well as a source of inspiration for further creative works.
“Social Mobility: Collaborative Projects with Temporary Services” is an interactive installation created by the Chicago-based collaborative artists’ group Temporary Service:
Through social actions, do-it-yourself projects, publications, and public interventions, the artists Brett Bloom, Marc Fischer, and Salem Collo-Julin aim to raise awareness and create dialogue about social, economic, environmental, and political issues.
The exhibit includes “The Self-Reliance Library,” writings on creativity and alternative living.

I’m looking forward to the Department of Art Theory and Practice MFA Thesis Exhibition, which opens with a reception on Friday, May 6 from 5-7 pm. Artists participating this year are Haig Aivazian, Cameron Crawford, Crystal Heiden, Eric May, and Chris Naka.
