Recognition of authors we know

The 2011 PEN Awards were announced today. Northwestern MA/MFA faculty member Aleksandar Hemon is the winner of the PEN/W. G. Sebald Award for a Fiction Writer in Mid-Career, which “honors an author who has published at least 3 significant works of literary fiction, either novels or short story collections, with the promise of more to come.”

Also, TQO contributor Hadara Bar-Nadav has been recognized as a runner-up for the Tupelo Press 2010-2011 Dorset Prize for poetry. She was also a named a finalist for the same contest's Snowbound Chapbook Award.

Karen Zemanick

Karen Zemanick, an MFA student at Northwestern University, has published creative nonfiction and video essays. She also practices and teaches psychiatry in Chicago. She sees narrative as a tool to foster listening, community, and understanding.
