A circumference, a radius, and a constant

For some relief from the tragic news coming from Japan, let your thoughts turn to the abstract. Today, 3/14, is National Pi Day, a holiday established in the House of Representatives in 2009 to encourage education in math and sciences. Wislawa Szymborska's poem gives some lyric inspiration. I also recommend marking the day by reading this unforgettable 1992 article from The New Yorker, “The Mountains of Pi.”
