An Introduction to Creative Nonfiction

This isn't the Black issue of TriQuarterly. Instead, it is the beginning of an intentional practice by the editorial staff to represent myriad aesthetics from Black literary voices. Nonfiction editor, Starr Davis, will pioneer this ongoing work and we are so ready to see how she brings her vision to the pages of future issues. In this particular moment, we are grateful for the contributions of such poignant and different voices from our literary community: Cap, Skinner, Lee, Brownlow, Tucker. Their writing, which offers excellence in traditional forms as well as vital expression in the avant-garde, made this current issue possible.

What also made this issue a reality were the essays of the writers whose work does not appear here. Thank you for sharing your words. We found so much to celebrate and consider in what you sent. We anticipate reading more from you in future issues of this journal and others. Please keep writing. Only together will we advance the field.
